GETTING THERE

If you would like us to book you through door to door, we can do so.
Otherwise, the recommended airlines flying straight to Nairobi are Kenya Airways, British Airways, KLM or Virgin.

If you are going to Tumaren Ranch, you will need to take a hour taxi ride from Jomo Kenyatta Airport (where your International flight lands) to Wilson Airport where you will catch a light, Kenya Airways aircraft for a one hour flight to Nanyuki airport in whose attractive airstrip restaurant, you will meet your driver for the final two hour drive through increasingly remote, and sometimes trackless country, on the way to Tumaren Ranch. This incoming drive through the country you will later come to know is a good introduction to the style of terrain and the animals it hosts. If you have arrived in Nairobi in the evening or the night, or are in any way pressured for time, or very tired, we recommend allowing us to book you into a comfortable B and B Nairobi hotel where you can unwind and de-stress before you start your safari.

If you are going on to Baraka or Shuma after Tumaren, you will return to Nanyuki airport in the same vehicle that brought you, and you will already have a return flight to Wilson Airport. Landing at Wilson you will transfer to another Kenya Airways flight which will drop you one hour later at Malindi on the coast, where someone will meet you and drive you 20 mins to Baraka or Shuma Houses by the sea.

The internal flights from Wilson/Nanyuki return and Wilson/Malindi return will cost in the region of 300 pounds.

It is cheaper to book both your international and domestic flight together and travel agents such as Trailfinders (+44 20 7938 3939). Or the flight Centre (+44 2074865585) are a good place to start for the best deals.

TRAVEL TIPS

Travel Insurance
We recommend you get adequate travel insurance for your trip, insurance packages can be found at most high street travel agents.

Flying Doctors Insurance
AMREF Flying Doctors Service operates 24 hours, 365 days of the year through its control centre located at Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Highly qualified medical staff and aircrew are on standby to respond to emergencies. They provide air evacuation service in medical emergencies as well as air ambulance transfers between medical facilities. This cover is cheap, highly recommended and can be purchased online at www.amref.org (please make sure you choose the option that is 1000km from Nairobi Airport.)

Visas
All visitors travelling to Kenya must obtain a visa. This costs 35.00 (US$50) and can be obtained via a travel agent (e.g. Trailfinders or Thames Consular services 02074944957) or the Kenya High Commission (Tel: 020 7636 2371/5), or on arrival at JK Airport in Nairobi (this is a very quick and efficient service).

Inoculations
For visitors to Kenya from UK no immunisations are required by law; however, it is a good idea to take precautions. Yellow fever is mandatory if returning to the USA, Australia and some European countries (Consult your GP for more information).

Vaccines generally recommended for Kenya are: Diphtheria and Tetanus, Polio, Typhoid, Yellow fever, and Rabies.

Please consult your GP for information on all of the above.  A good website for travel health info is: www.mdtravelhealth.com
